●The slide shoes ( 25 ), which are hollow to ensure water cooling
of the shoes, are babbitted, cast steel fabrications. On its lower
side, each slide shoe is fitted with a ball segment ( 34 ), resting in
a ball socket ( 33 ). This design will ensure that the babbitted
surface of the slide shoe will always follow the surface of the
slide ring ( 26 )
the case of the movable slide shoes, is placed on rollers ( 30 )
which in turn are placed on the bedplates ( 01 )
●The interrelated positions of the thrust pad, rollers and
bedplates are maintained by means of the spacers ( 31 ) and the
guide rails ( 29 )
●On the fixed slide shoe the rollers have been replaced by a
distance block ( 35 ), which, together with the thrust pad 32 ), is
fixed to the bedplate ( 01 ) with
The slide ring
● hence the entire mill, is controlled, in the fixed
bearing , in the axial direction by means of sturdy bronze guide
rails ( 27 ), fixed with bolts to each side of the fixed slide .
●Also fitted on the remaining slide shoes are bolted on guide
rails ( 28 ) so that the slide shoes and the underlying bearing
parts in the movable bearing will follow the migration of the
slide ring in response to the thermal expansion of the mill and
its contraction subject to cooling subsequent to shutdown.
